Islamabad United Won by 4 wickets. Islamabad United’s PSL 2023 campaign got off to a winning start thanks to Colin Munro’s 58 off 28 balls and Azam Khan’s 44 off 28 balls. They defeated Karachi Kings’ 173 for 7 with ten balls and four wickets remaining on a pitch full of runs.
Thanks to Haider Ali’s half-century, Kings posted a competitive total when they batted. United, on the other hand, promptly lost Hassan Nawaz to Mohammad Amir. Paul Stirling was then returned by Muhammad Musa with a precise yorker, but Munro hit three fours in his first four balls and never really gave up.
Rassie van der Dussen was Munro’s reliable partner, and the two of them added 59 runs for the third wicket in 31 balls. As he and Munro smoked the Kings bowlers to all parts of the ground, Azam came in to make sure that no momentum was lost. Before Munro was run out due to a miscommunication, the duo scored 56 runs off 31 balls.
After failing to clear deep midwicket, Azam fell quickly, but the required rate was well under control at that point. In the 19th over, Tom Curran smashed Shoaib Malik wide, long-on, to end the game.
Haider earlier made a timely comeback by scoring his first PSL fifty in 17 innings. James Vince had been taken out by Rumman Raees in the first over of the match, but Haider quickly settled in. He scored his first run with an imposing cover drive off Faheem Ashraf, and two balls later, he scored another boundary off the same bowler.
Before smashing Curran for two fours and a six in one over, Sharjeel Khan started his boundary counter by slashing Mohammad Wasim past point. That helped Kings finish the powerplay at 55 for 1.
Curran removed Sharjeel from the 77-run stand just as Haider and Sharjeel were threatening to take United out of the game. Munro ran in from deep midwicket and expertly took the left-handed shot. Matthew Wade had trouble getting going, but Haider scored his half-century on 38 shots.
United, on the other hand, stormed back into the game, picking up three for eight in seven balls. Haider went down first after flat-batting a ball to long-on that was too short. After that, Mohammad Wasim hit twice in two balls, sending Wade and Imad Wasim back.
Even though they frequently lost wickets, United were able to score 52 runs in the final five overs. Despite this, they did manage to score a few crucial boundaries. Eventually, it was insufficient.
